He has over 25 years of domestic and international experience in healthcare and manufacturing organizations. Additionally, he is certified as a Black Belt Champion and Six Sigma Green Belt. From the manufacturing and delivery processes of industry to the Emergency Department, his ability to promote change in the culture is the key to his success. Steve excels at the hands-on approach. His mentorship promotes sustained transformation in the organization. He works directly with leadership applying Hoshin Planning principles and metrics that drive continuous improvement. This focus on transfer of knowledge enables leadership to continue progress toward World Class beyond the first implementation.
In February 2005 Steve Stenberg formed Continuous Progress LLC which is an independent consulting firm specializing in Lean practices and the Toyota Production System.
Steve has experience in a variety of businesses with ever increasing responsibilities. He has worked in grocery, retail, healthcare and manufacturing. Some of the various titles Steve has held are Department Head, Sales Associate, Production Associate. Quality Technician, Supervisor, Manufacturing Manager, Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Program Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager and General Manager.
Steve spent the eight years learning and applying the Toyota Production System at MagnaDonnelly Corporation. Steve received extensive training through seminars, teaching and coaching by Russ Scaffedde. Russ has extensive experience in lean and was a Toyota Vice President for years.
Steve has participated in numerous benchmarking studies in the United States as well as China, Japan and Mexico. He has experience with developing lean systems worldwide and is an excellent trainer and facilitator.

Manufacturing:
- Spent over 23 years in manufacturing and administrative settings, from floor foreman, to engineer, to manufacturing manager, and plant manager.
- First Director of Continuous Improvement (6) plants at Burgess Norton Mfg., managing all aspects of lean manufacturing, including training and implementations five years.
- Managed and trained numerous Lean Specialists
- Trainer of over 3,000 people including senior leadership & staff at (7) divisions in Amsted Industries and facilities in Belgium, France, & Germany.
- Experience in a variety of industries including, foundry processes, machining, sheet metal fabrication, grinding, high and low volume assembly, electro-static painting.
Healthcare:
- Implemented & introduced lean at Florida Hospital, University of Nebraska Medical Center, LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center, University of Minnesota (Fairview), Capital Health, Presbyterian Healthcare Services
- Performed lean applications in Nutritional Services, OR, ED, Pharmacy, In-Patient Flow. Discharge, Lab’s (both Core & Non-Core, & SPD
- Heavily involved in ‘Lean’ Design specifically:
- Designed the ‘Lean’ ED at LeBonheur Children's Medical Center (featured in Lean Hospitals book), along with the OR, Pharmacy, Radiology, Neuro & Cardio Clinics
- Presbyterian, designed ‘Lean’ into the entire new Westside Hospital, including OR, Nutritional, Med/Surg Floors, Radiology, Pharmacy, Financial Flows and Registration Flows
